Louis Vuitton for the Red Cross

20th October 2009

Two Anniversaries

This year marks the 150th anniversaries of both the Red Cross and the House of Louis Vuitton. The luxury leather goods maker and the international NGO have decided to celebrate together their successful one and half century birthday.

Heritage and traditional Savoir –faire

Louis Vuitton has chosen to create a special order to celebrate this twin event: 6 unique pieces designed by six virtuoso artists in correspondence with their daily occupations. This special-order leather goods series has been realized by the masters of the Vuitton’s unique “savoir-faire”: the talented craftmen of the LV special-oreder traditional workshop in Asnières (France).

Six masterpieces

Argentine compositor Gustavo Santaolalla created a travel case for his ronroco (a sort of guitar). Ferran Adria, the famous Spanish chef designed a set of luggage to transport his cooking tools. The House’s fashion artistic director, Marc Jacobs, crafted a special travel case for dogs to facilitate his commutations between Paris and New York with his favourite dogs. Annie Leibovitz, one the favourite photographers of Louis Vuitton, imagined a custom camera bags. The plastic artist Damien Hirst created an amazing medical-supply trunk with grey and red aluminium boxes that draws the traditional Red Cross symbol. Even Patrick-Louis Vuitton, director of Louis Vuitton special Orders department, invented a special chest for painting tools (his second passion).
